Blue Caps Fail to Hold Lead-7/3/08

The Blue Caps dropped their last game before the All-Star Break tonite to the McLean Raiders, 7-6. Starting pitcher Mike Sweeney (Gettysburg) went 7 innings, allowing just two earned runs as the Blue Caps took a 6-2 lead into the eighth inning. In the eighth, the Raiders capped a five-run rally with a grand slam to take a lead that they would hang onto. On the offensive side, Max Eckert (Stevenson) reached base five times and hit his eighth home run of the season. Derek Kline (Millersville) added his third home run and Matt Kaler (Massachusett's) reached base three times.

The Blue Caps are off until Monday night, July 7, when they travel to Water's Field to play the Vienna Senators at 7 pm. The All-Star Game will be held on Saturday night, July 5, at Water's Field, and the Blue Caps will be represented by Max Eckert (Stevenson), Chris Duffy (Central Florida), Shane Brown (Central Florida), and Jay Joines (Richmond).

Blue Caps Drop Both Ends-7/2/08

The Blue Caps fell in both games this evening. In the continuation of the June 23 curfew-shortened game, the Blue Caps fell in ten innings, 5-3. In the scheduled game, the Blue Caps fell behind early, battled back, but ended up coming short as the final score was 9-5. Mike Thatcher (Newberry) threw well in relief to give the Blue Caps a chance to come back.

The Blue Caps' final game before the All-Star Break will be tomorrow night, July 3, at Fairfax High School at 7 pm against the McLean Raiders.

Blue Caps Fall in Extra Innings-7/1/08

The Blue Caps lost a heartbreaker in 10 innings to the Vienna Senators this evening, 10-4. The Blue Caps scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings, but the Senators connected on a grand slam and a two-run homer to put the game away. Alex Eliopoulos (Johns Hopkins) started for the Blue Caps and threw well, keeping them in the game. On offense, Robert Hays (St. Edward's) hit his fifth home run in as many days and Max Eckert (Stevenson) chipped in three hits of his own.

The Blue Caps travel to Paul VI High School on Wednesday to play the Fairfax Nationals. They will first play the continuation of a curfew-shortened game at 6 pm followed by the actual game itself.
